&Mend is the furniture repair and reupholstery arm of Relative Creative and combines our interest and research into Cultures of Repair with Bec’s upholstery skills.
&Mend has been designed to challenge our broken relationship to ‘things’, predominantly furniture, evidenced in the constant drive to buy new and throw-away the old leading to increased landfill and contributing to climate change.
In June 2015, Bec was awarded a grant through the Uber Mentorship Program. The Uber Mentorship Program is a Queensland Government and Gold Coast City Council partnership to support local arts and culture. With this support Bec has set about undertaking a mentorship with Deka Design in order to fully engage with the sustainable practice of repairing, restoring, reupholstering and reselling second-hand furniture on the Gold Coast.
