Looking After Country With Fire tells a story about Aboriginal burning knowledge and how, for thousands of years, Aboriginal people have managed the land by burning Country. The book is authored by Indigenous land management expert Victor Steffensen and illustrated by Sandra Steffensen.

Opportunity for futures

This book takes many of the significant insights from Steffenson’s 2020 adult book Fire Country and presents them as a children’s story. Communicating Indigenous fire management knowledge and practices in this format enables early learning for future generations to respect and care for Country.

Our approach

Tristan worked closely with Victor, Sandra and the Hardie Grant team to design and lay out this important book. This included selecting and crafting typography to add supportive layers to the storytelling and celebrate the beautiful illustrations.
