Holistic design of an online education platform that strengthens cultural responsiveness for those working in the financial industry

Background

First Nations Foundation (FNF) is a First Nations led organisation dedicated to increasing financial literacy for First Nations peoples. Relative Creative were engaged by FNF to support the design of their cultural competency training offering for financial services and Government sectors.

Opportunity for futures

First Nations people face significant wealth disparity in Australia as a direct result and outcome of colonialism. Ingrained assumptions within the finance sector often contribute to a lack of culturally responsive support for First Nations peoples. This First Nations-led training program was designed to give people working in these industries a better understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures so they can enhance their delivery of financial services to First Nations peoples.

Our approach

Drawing on our extensive experience and expertise in classroom and online education, we reviewed existing content from First Nations Foundation alongside our strength-based and culturally responsive approach to  education about First Nations culture, histories, presents and futures. We drew on the established brand identity to design and map content and support the development of slide-based modules. We wrote scripts for all of the modules and organised for these to be recorded by Mishalia Birch and edited these to provide users with the option of listening to the content. Finally, we designed, scripted, produced and animated a teaser video with filmmaker Salvador Cantellano.
