Background

Townsville’s Reef HQ Aquarium, owned by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, is about to undertake a major capital asset refurbishment project. Reef HQ is home to the world’s largest living coral reef aquarium, providing visitors with an opportunity to experience the Great Barrier Reef without getting wet.

Relative Creative are leading the co-design process to facilitate Traditional Owners providing their concepts to reimagine First Nations presence at the aquarium, including presenting First Nations conservation practices throughout the aquarium visitor experience.

Our approach

Using our extensive experience of collaborating with local communities and First Nations peoples we have approached this projects as a facilitated opportunity to explore and experiment with ideas, together; contribute to adjusting existing developing ideas and building consensus on a way forward for co-designing interpretive content for the museum.
